For the last three years the University of Bath has been the South-West's Regional Centre for Wheelchair Basketball. One aspect of this commitment from the University involves working alongside British Wheelchair Basketball to deliver weekly sessions which are free for all students to attend. Sessions run every Monday in the Founders' Hall from 4-6pm, and everyone is welcome regardless of experience or ability! Come along and have a go; who knows, it may change your life!
Sitting Volleyball
The University of Bath Volleyball club runs weekly competitive and recreational sitting volleyball sessions. The recreational sessions are backed by both, the Volleyball England HEVO initiative and Bath Active and are free to all, regardless of ability! These provide a perfect platform to learn about the skills and movement involved in the sport and put them to use in match environments. The competitive team have a further training session, involving more tactical team play, with fixtures and tournaments throughout the academic year.
Other Sports
Alongside the development of the Wheelchair Basketball program on campus, many of our student clubs are also taking part in our Inclusivity Award, facilitating an inclusive sport offer for all of their club members, clubs will run adaptive sessions throughout the year. If you want to get involved in sport and you have an access requirement you wish to discuss, then please get in contact using the link on the left of this page. The sports clubs who acheived the Inclusivity Award 2017/18 are: Cheerleading, Dodgeball, Fencing, Women's Football, Hockey, Kickboxing, Latin and Ballroom, Motorsports, Ultimate Frisbee, Volleyball and Waterpolo.
Inclusive Sports Day
Each year our Sport Executive Committee organises the Inclusive (previously Disability) Sports Day. We host lots of opportunities to try out different sports like seated volleyball, goal ball and other adaptive sports like VI table tennis. Check out the video below from a couple of years ago.
Ambassadors
On top of our student volunteers and BUCS, our events have been supported by Ben Rushgrove, a Great British Paralympic Athlete. Ben lives in Bath and can often be seen training in the STV. He is committed to increasing the awareness and participation in disability sport and is exctied to be involved in this project. He will be around throughout the Disability Sports Day lending advice and support to the athletes.
