What is SpaceSoc?

SpaceSoc is the launch pad for all space-minded students, no matter what you study! We aim to unite folks interested in all aspects of space, whether that be stargazing, rockets or sci-fi! As a registered branch of UKSEDS (UK Students for the Exploration and Development of Space) and close contact of Bath Astronomers, we have the connections to expand your horizons and hold some truly out-of-this-world events!

What We Do

Space League (video games)

The Space League is a set of fortnightly challenges for your favourite space-themed games, including Kerbal Space Program. Points are awarded based on performance in the challenges and at the end of the year the winner is announced! We also arrange collabs with BVGS and TableTop.

Screenings

Together with FilmSoc, we screen a variety of shows from science-fiction to science-fact. This means films like The Martian, the latest informative documentaries and live rocket launches!

Talks, Workshops and Quizzes

Want to learn more space? Get hands-on experience with our telescopes in our beginner-friendly workshops. Ask the experts during our guest lectures or test your knowledge by attending one of our quizzes!

Stargazing

Whether you want to unwind with your friends with a hot chocolate under a starry sky, or hunt for deep space objects- stargazing is for you! Every month we will run stargazing events, where we will observe the moon, planets, nebulae, clusters and more. Thanks to our collaborations with Bath Astronomers, we have access to bigger telescopes and more expertise! Clear skies!
