Frequently Asked Questions
Are you open to beginners?
Yes! We are open to all shots, whether you are an experienced shooter or have never picked up a gun before, we can accommodate all levels of abilities. All you need to do is join the club and sign up for a shoot!
How often do you shoot?
We typically run one weekly session every Wednesday afternoon and if there is the demand, we host the occasional Saturday shoot. This is as well as several other competitions and events throughout the year.
What do you shoot?
We organise sporting clay pigeon shoots and occasionally do paintballing socials. For clarification, clay pigeon shooting involves shooting clay targets released from traps, using shotguns. We are NOT a rifle club and cannot unfortuantely offer this discipline.
How much is it?
Shooting with the University of Bath Shooting club is just about the cheapest way you can ever shoot. We have an agreement where cartridges and clays are discounted, so shoots usually cost £16.25 per 25 clays. The club has its own guns so gun hire is free! For competitions, the club provides cartridges for free so the only cost is competition entry.
Can I borrow a gun?
Yes! The club has a variety of guns, including 12 Bores and 20 Bores, which can be used under the close supervision of the more experienced members.
Do you enter competitions?
Yes! We enter several competitions throughout the year, which are primarily inter-university competitions. Everyone is welcome to join in the competitions and there is a variety of experience and skill levels present.
Where do you shoot?
Our two main shooting grounds have been Mendip Shooting Ground and Barbury Shooting School, with the former being the most common one we visit. You can find more about the grounds we visit at the links below:
How can I sign up for a shoot?
You can sign up for our shoots on our signups page here. We aim to have sign-ups live by Sunday night for Wednesday shoots. Be sure to keep up to date with WhatsApp gc or Insta stories to see when signups are announced.
