Helping students settle into the local community.
University isn’t just about the time you spend learning, you are also part of a wider community. A community that isn’t just students and contains all sorts of new questions: who do I tell when something breaks, what shall I do about my neighbours and, most importantly, what day do the bins go out?
The Student Community Partnership is here to help you answer those questions. Since 25 September through to late November, the SCP are holding their annual Moving In door knocking campaign. They will be looking to support you settling into a new area and providing information that will improve community integration, including waste and recycling information, guidelines for noise and anti-social behaviour, and contact details for the SCP for ongoing support.
Over the course of the campaign, you can expect a short visit from the team, supported by the higher education institutions in Bath, their Students’ Unions and Bath & Northeast Somerset Council. They will ask how you’re settling in, who lives at the property, have there been any issues with landlords, letting agents or other people in the area. They will also be able to answer questions about the bins.
Other residents will also be contacted during the campaign, especially in areas outside Oldfield Park, Westmoreland, and Southdown, with community wardens making daily rounds in student dense areas. These wardens will be available to raise any issues between students and long-term residents, taking them up with the SCP Manager.
