At the end of June, 53 students headed off on a sold-out day trip to Cheddar Gorge, an iconic natural gem nestled in the Mendip hills.
Multiple times a year, the Halls Reps organise SU day trips to various locations and hot spots across the UK- previous excursions have included Castle Combe, Stonehenge and Oxford, all which have proved very popular.
On June 2, the group of students and trip leaders met at 9:30 and drove an hour to the gorge. Cheddar Gorge is famous for being not only one of Britain’s most awe-inspiring natural landmarks but is also officially an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and a Site of Specific Scientific Interest. There is a range of different activities to do at the site, and the students’ ticket price included not only transport to Cheddar Gorge but also an Audio Guided Tour to Cough’s Cave, the Cheddar Man Museum of Prehistory, Cox’s Cave and the Crystal Quest, access to the Lookout Tower and the Cliff Top Gorge Walk.
The students present on the trip said they had the best time, with one summarising, ‘the whole trip was amazing!’. Several said that they especially loved the caves, with one commenting, ‘the caves were amazing. I had a fantastic time exploring and learning about its fascinating long history.’
