Farewell to Rob Tyrrell

Farewell to Rob Tyrrell

Together we join Rob Tyrrell’s family in saying goodbye to our friend and Activities Officer for 2020/21 who has been laid to rest near his family home.

Today we join Rob Tyrrell’s family in saying goodbye to our friend and Activities Officer for 2020/21, as he was laid to rest near his family home in Hampshire.

Rob, who passed away on Monday 29 June, touched the lives of so many people in his time at Bath.

He was active across virtually every area of The SU, a regular at Zumba, a coach-favourite at volleyball, a student representative, but more importantly a person who radiated warmth, energy and an unfailing ability to make people smile everywhere he went.

Dozens of students, friends and colleagues have contributed to a memory wall for Rob, sharing their stories about how they met Rob and the impact had had on their lives.

Here are just a handful of the stories that people have shared:

“There isn't anyone I've met that's topped your positivity, your selflessness and your ability to make everyone feel like they had a place within the volleyball club. Every moment spent with you was a happy one, you made everyone absolutely glow around you.

“You will not be forgotten, and your incredible capacity to bring joy, warmth, support, a laugh, and a funky shirt makes me feel so grateful and honoured to have been a part of your life.”

“You’ve had such a big impact on so many people’s lives and you were always there ready to listen and offer advice, give a massive hug, say some form of joke or trying to convince me to go to happy hour, volleyball or Zumba.

“You always cared so much about others and you were so easy to talk to. You really were such a bright light in this world that has gone out far too soon. Missing you and I hope you rest in peace, my friend.”

Rob’s family has asked that instead of flowers, they would prefer donations to Epilepsy Research UK.

We are planning to remember Rob in a variety of different ways throughout the year, including how we can best take forward Rob’s manifesto pledges for what he wanted to achieve as Activities Officer.

For now, we say goodbye to a treasured friend and colleague, and send our love to his family and all who had the pleasure of knowing him.
