What We Do
Welcome to ChaOS! If you play an instrument or sing (whether in a contemporary or classical style), then we are the society for you. We host two main concerts every year and a smattering of other recitals and smaller concerts alike (View our events here). We also provide opportunities for our members to improve themselves as a musician and many socials throughout the year.
Reasons to Join Us
ChaOS, or the Choral and Orchestral Society, is the University's largest musical society. ChaOS is made up of a variety of ensembles covering a range of genres: the Alley Barbers (a Barbershop Choir), Bath Bellas, Big Band, Brass Band, Cantus (a chamber choir), Choir, Concert Band, Contemporary Choir (singing a range of gospel, a cappella, soul and pop music), Orchestra and String Ensemble. The society provides small chamber ensembles for events around campus and in the city and we always consider ideas for new groups.
We also have three smaller chamber style groups, called Ad Hocs. These only exist when we would like them to and have enough players to make them work. Our current Ad Hoc ensembles are Flute Choir, Chamber Orchestra and Clarinet Choir
We have plenty of opportunities for soloists, pianists, drummers and small groups too including performing at our recitals.
By joining ChaOS, you can join as many ensembles as you like within the ChaOS family!
Come and Meet Us
Our emphasis is on music-making, and we welcome all students who want to get involved, whatever your experience and ability. We are a Student Society, and therefore our activities are mainly run by students, with the help of volunteer conductors.
You are welcome to come along to any rehearsal to give it a go before joining the society.
We are also holding a taster day on Saturday 1st October on where you can give our ensembles a go - find out more here.
Please don't hesitate to email us, investigate our Facebook page, or follow us on Instagram. We'll reply to any questions as soon as we can!
If you are an ex-member of ChaOS, then feel free to join our Facebook alumni group to keep in touch.
