CESG: Chemical Engineering Sustainability Group

Who are we?

CESG is a student-led sustainability group, dedicated to raising awareness and making sustainable change across campus. We are a subsidiary of the Chemical Engineering Student Association (CESA)

What do we do?

We work closely with the Chemical Engineering department and CESA, as well as the Climate Action Group (CAG), to raise awareness and actively encourage sustainability on campus. Some projects and events we have worked on last year include:

  • A poster competition on campus energy saving deas that were presented to faculty staff.
  • Advertising opportunities for students to attend informative talks given by academic staff regarding the climate emergency.
  • Working with CESA to make socials more sustainable.

Some things we are working on for the 2024/25 academic year include:

  • Working with CESA to bring back the Frank Morton sports day, and finding sustainable travel and merchandise options.
  • Collaborating with other dpeartments in the faculty of Engineering and Design to increase student outreach and discuss sustainable initiatives.
  • Organising talks with industry leaders to encourage students looking for careers in sustainable sectors such as renewable energy.
  • Holding social media competitions to encourage sustainable lifestyle choices, like eating a vegan diet and purchasing clothes second-hand.
  • Raising awareness across the faculty and the university about sustainable schemes like the Laboratory Efficiency Assessment Framework (LEAF).
  • Organising competitions, quizzes and fun socials.
