What is Caledonian Society?
Caledonian Society (CalSoc) is the University of Bath's Scottish social and dancing society.
Join us to learn how to reel (Scottish dance), make new friends and go all out at an informal Ceilidh (party) or Caledonian ball.
Important! You do not need to be of Scottish descent nor have any ties to Scotland! Neither do you need to have any dancing ability (you will have just as much fun with two left feet).
We are a welcoming society that enjoys a dance, a dram and learning a bit more about Scottish heritage.
We meet in the SU at 6:30pm every Thursday evening before heading to The Edge Art Studio at 7pm. On Monday evenings we meet in town for a social and we host ceilidhs multiple times each semester. Come along and see what it's all about!
Why Join CalSoc?
CalSoc meets for reeling practices once a week. You’ll find yourself swinging across the dance floor and learning some slick reeling skills to sweep your partner off their feet (quite literally...)
In addition to hosting ceilidhs at The Tub throughout term, we also hold a Spring Caledonian Ball with students from other universities joining us to reel the night away. Other events include the Christmas dinner, Burns’ night supper, and trips away to other university balls.
But the most important reason to join CalSoc is to meet new people. Nothing breaks the ice quite like swinging arm in arm with a stranger!
