What we do
Here is a quick overview of all the shows we put on over the year:
BUSMS perform around 5 shows a year and they are a great opportunity for everyone to get involved. We have opportunities for people who would like to audition for lead roles, small parts, and we also have an Open Chorus where you can still be part of a show without auditioning! There are also other ways you can get involved with BUSMS if you love musicals but are not a fan of being in the limelight yourself - we have a production team for every show, usually including a Director, Assistant Director, Musical Director, Choreographer and Producer. Please get in touch with us if you have any queries about any of these roles!
October/Returners’ Show - we perform a musical every year in October, open to any returners to Bath Uni who would like to audition!
Overture - In November, we perform our first Revue Show of the year, which is a mixture of songs from various musicals. We usually have four directors involved in this show who choose their own numbers they would like to direct! Overture is the first show freshers can get involved with and there are opportunities to audition for parts, or if you want you can join the open chorus numbers and participate without auditioning!
Main Show - Every year we put on a full-scale show in March, often with around 50-70 people involved! We hold auditions for parts, there are open chorus and production team (PT) opportunities, and we also have a live band that anyone can apply to be part of! Main Show is a great way to make friends and be involved with the musical theatre society as it is our biggest event of the year
Encore - Usually in April, we have our second Revue Show of the year, with a large array of numbers from different musicals. There are PT roles, auditioned parts, and open chorus opportunities in this show, and it’s loads of fun to take part in!
Fringe - As part of Bath Fringe, we put together a full scale musical in the span of a week. If you’ve always wanted to direct a specific show, this is the perfect opportunity as you can pitch it later in the year! Usually with a smaller cast size (around 10 people), you will need to audition to get involved, or apply to be part of our amazing band or production team!
