Who are Backstage?
Backstage is a society for anyone who wants to get involved with the behind-the-scenes aspects that go into putting on shows and live events. Our members provide lighting, sound, stage-management, set design, pyrotechnics, event management, and more to over 60 events per year, for our members to get involved with!
These events include large-live events such as Freshers' Week and Summer Ball, musicals and theatre performances, club nights, band nights, sports events, and more!
As well as this, we provide training and mentorship, meaning that any member can get involved with any crew role with absolutely no prior experience required.
Reasons to Join
Whether you are an experienced technician or have never been to a theatre, Backstage is the perfect place to learn about and get involved in the events industry. The year is packed full of events to get involved with for any knowledge level. We run regular training sessions throughout the year and organise external training courses, with training always open and free to all members. Many of our members go on to get professional work in the events industry, and every year lots of us go on to spend our summers working as technicians at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival.
Alongside events, we have socials, pub tours, theatre trips, and joint socials with other societies we regularly collaborate with.
