Training Groups

We have a selection of performance and recreational training groups for you to get involved with! Can't find a group that fits you or need additional information? Then contact the committee at su-athletics@bath.ac.uk or head coach Colin Bovell at cb267@bath.ac.uk.

Taster sessions for the recreational sprint/endurance groups will both take place on Monday 30th September at 18:30 at the Indoor Sprint Track in the STV. Don't worry if you miss this - training sessions during the first week of class will also serve as tasters!

Sprints & Hurdles

Performance sprints & hurdles

The BUCS Target, Sprints and Hurdles Squad covers 100-400m flat and hurdles and is open to Athletes whose PB's match those of BUCS finalists. It is coached by Colin Bovell, University of Bath Head Coach. In sessions that take place twice a week on Mondays at 18:30 and Wednesdays at 17:30 on the indoor and outdoor track, you will be able to focus on improving your speed in a very welcoming group with plenty of social opportunities throughout the year. As well as this, many of the group compete in the Exeter Varsity competition which gives you an opportunity to represent the university!

Middle Distance and Endurance

Performance Endurance

The Performance Endurance Group covers athletes looking to dedicate themselves to train for distances ranging from 800m-5000m. Coached by Martin Rush, you will join a group targeting BUCS competitions with multiple sessions every week.

Recreational Endurance

Qualified student coaches lead sessions twice a week – Mondays at 18:30 and Wednesdays at 16:30 – for athletes across a range of abilities. We try and cater for everyone, from the beginner to people trying to improve their general fitness or people training for track, cross country or road races.

All students who run these sessions are qualified coaches and there are typically 3 coaches at a session which allows the groups to be split so that everyone is running with athletes of a similar ability. Sessions can be on the track or a field around campus.
